Job Details

Nesil Caliskan MP is looking to recruit a full-time, Communication and Constituency Officer to support her work for the constituents of Barking. The role will be based in the constituency to help promote her work locally through communications, as well as support tasks in the constituency office.

Duties will include, but not limited to:

  • Attend constituency meetings as appropriate
  • Maintain a communications plan for the Member, planning for content across all channels and coordinating with the agreed priorities and campaigns of the Member
  • Produce literature and social media content for constituency campaigns and to promote the Member at constituency activities such as, street stalls, coffee mornings, meetings with resident associations
  • Establish, monitor and update a social media and online presence in the constituency. Produce online graphics and video content, as well as publicising surgeries and news alerts etc.
  • Manage and monitor social media enquiries, dealing with cases that do not need to be transferred to a higher level. Ensure all enquiries are dealt with in a timely manner
  • Monitor media coverage, liaise with media, prepare press releases as required (on constituency, non-party-political matters)
  • Produce press releases, liaise with the media, meeting deadlines as appropriate
  • Flexible working, including the occasional weekend, will be expected and TOIL can be accrued
  • There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally

Candidates with previous communication experience is desirable, but not essential, however all candidates should have a good understanding of different social media platforms and how Members of Parliament can utilise them to engage with their constituents.
