Job Details

This is an opportunity to help make a real difference to people's lives in Chelsea and Fulham.

The caseworker will work alongside the established casework and policy teams and be expected to work collaboratively as well as independently. They’ll split the time dealing with both casework and policy enquiries from constituents.

Experience in a similar role providing support to individuals will be considered.

The position requires excellent communication skills; the ability to speak, write and listen well as well as strong administrative and organisational skills to manage a busy workload.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a first point of contact for constituents via telephone and email including handling high volumes of enquiries, engaging with a wide range of constituents over the phone, including those who may be distressed or dissatisfied, demonstrating patience, resilience, and professionalism.

  • Supporting the MP in his work with constituents by providing support through liaison with government agencies, local authorities, the voluntary sector and others.

  • Draft responses to constituents on casework and policy matters.

  • Managing, progressing, and monitoring a heavy caseload.

  • Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of relevant guidelines/legislation.

  • Ensuring cases are dealt with in a sensitive and confidential manner.

  • Working effectively as part of a small team, showing initiative and taking ownership of your work.

Person & Job specification

  • Experience of carrying out casework preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Experience of dealing with challenging individuals in a calm, professional and respectful manner.

  • A high standard of written English with attention to detail.

  • Can prioritise work effectively and work independently.
  • Has excellent administrative and organisational skills.

  • Experience of dealing with sensitive and confidential information.

  • Competent use of IT packages.

  • A commitment to helping people and getting the best results possible for residents.

  • A positive, approachable manner with the ability to contribute to a supportive and good-humoured team environment.

  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party.

Occasional evening work might be required.
