Location: Hybrid – minimum 2 days per week from London office and 2 days per month from the BVRLA office, River Lodge, Amersham, Bucks, HP7 0DD. Some UK travel and occasional overnight stays required.

About the role

The BVRLA is looking for a Campaigns Officer to support its award-nominated public affairs and campaign work. Working with our Public Affairs Manager in the Policy and Research team, you will support policy engagement campaigns, member mobilisation, political relationships and raising the profile of our work.

You will join a talented, highly motivated and supportive team and work across fast-moving policy areas including electric vehicles, decarbonisation, future mobility, consumer finance and motor taxation.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

• Engage with MPs and staff, Select Committees and industry stakeholders to raise awareness of BVRLA, its members and policy priorities.
• Coordinate campaigns, strategies and programmes supporting BVRLA’s policy aims.
• Represent BVRLA at external working groups, conferences and third-party events.
• Support members to engage with MPs through the ‘Industry Champions’ programme.
• Lead BVRLA’s technical understanding of Bills passing through the Commons and Lords.
• Provide high-quality policy briefings for colleagues, MPs and members.
• Work with communications, compliance, training and events teams to maximise impact with Government, media and stakeholders.
• Distil BVRLA political and operational insight into accessible content for members.
• Provide content and administrative support for research projects, meetings and events.

Professional and personal requirements

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Solid understanding of UK Parliament, politics, procedure and policymaking.
• Self-starter with initiative, drive and creativity, able to multitask and engage potential new members.
• At least 1 year’s experience in a political environment, ideally in consultancy, think tank, media, trade association or Parliament.
• Excellent research skills, with the ability to distil complex topics into clear, accessible content for different audiences.
• Grit, determination and willingness to stretch themselves, learn and develop.
• Confident in media and social media relations, with the ability to support media coverage and reputation management.
