Job Details
Deirdre Costigan MP is seeking a Caseworker/Senior Caseworker to join her team, based in the Constituency Office in Southall with occasional work in Parliament. The successful candidate will support the team in managing constituency casework and contributing to wider policy and campaign work.
The role includes liaising with government departments, local authorities and other organisations, drafting mass policy correspondence and identifying trends in casework to help inform parliamentary priorities.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with arranging and attending MP advice surgeries, coffee mornings, community events and follow up as appropriate.
- Handle a high volume of routine enquiries and assist with more complex casework from members of the public via telephone, email and face-to-face interactions.
- Support Senior Caseworkers in progressing constituency casework and resolving constituent issues effectively.
- Research and draft mass campaign responses to constituents regarding government policy.
- Produce high-quality written responses to constituent enquiries.
- Identify trends and recurring issues arising from constituency casework and communicate these effectively to the Parliamentary team to help shape campaigns, policy priorities and parliamentary interventions.
- Ensure records are accurately maintained and information is managed confidentially in accordance with relevant data protection legislation.
- Ensure all cases are handled promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately, in accordance with the wishes and direction of the MP.
- Log all cases, monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are completed.
- Occasionally work outside normal office hours, including attending events with the MP when required.
Essential Criteria
- Excellent written communication skills and the ability to draft letters and emails to a high professional standard.
- A proactive approach to work, both independently and as part of a small team.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.
- Commitment to the aims and values of the Labour Party.
Desirable Criteria
- Previous casework experience.
- Experience of using casework management software.
- Ealing Southall is a very diverse constituency and knowledge of a relevant community language, e.g. Punjabi would be desirable.
