Job Details

Mark Sewards MP is looking for dedicated and knowledgeable individuals to carry out casework for residents in Leeds South West & Morley. This is a real chance to make a difference to the lives of people in the local area.

You will manage an individual caseload, dealing with incoming support requests, making associated enquiries with relevant agencies and other third parties, and seeking the best resolution available to constituents.

You will also support Mark by assisting at surgeries, round tables and other events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle a large number of incoming queries from members of the public, by telephone, email or other forms of communication.
  • Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases.
  • Log all cases, monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken.
  • Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with GDPR.
  • Draft high-quality responses to constituents.
  • Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately, in accordance with the MP’s requirements.
  • Assist at surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate.
  • Other duties as required.

Person Specification

  • Able to work both in a team and unsupervised, prioritising a challenging workload.
  • Strong organisational skills, able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Good judgement and professionalism.
  • Empathy and patience, able to support people who may be experiencing very stressful situations.
  • Ability to manage expectations in sometimes challenging circumstances.
  • A proactive, can-do attitude, willing to support a range of office functions.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

Skills and experience

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including drafting letters and emails to a high professional standard.
  • Previous experience in a caseworker or client facing advisory role.
  • Knowledge of the Leeds South West & Morley constituency.
  • Good IT skills including MS Office.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to vehicle.

Additional information

  • The role requires working some evenings and weekends.
  • Travel will be required, both around the constituency and occasionally to London.
